The Government has declared that pubs will be allowed to remain open until 1am over the Coronation bank holiday weekend to enable loyal parties to “raise a glass” to King Charles.

To commemorate the King and Queen Consort’s Coronation, taverns, clubs, and bars across England and Wales will be allowed to expand their licence hours from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m., according to ministerial plans.

The stretch would extend through the Coronation bank holiday weekend, which runs from Friday, May 5 to Sunday, May 7.

In addition to assisting communities in commemorating the occasion, the government stated that the expanded hours would provide a boost to the hotel industry.

What will happen on the day of the coronation?

The crowning of King Charles III is anticipated to be a lesser event, with only 2,000 people expected to attend, compared to the 8,000 or so who attended Queen Elizabeth’s rite in 1953.
